I've read this series a few times over now to get a good idea of what I was reading. Sometimes, the first time around, one might think a book or series is all right. Then they read it again, and perhaps again, and they realize it's quite bad.This series is not just bad, but endlessly frustrating with dozens of plot holes. Not only that, the characters make claims about their own characteristics or about the alien culture that are never followed through on. For example, Baird claims that the Kindred culture is a matriarchy. What a joke lol. It's so far from a matriarchy that it makes me sick knowing that the author put this in her book believing it was true. Treating women like property and having laws allowing their male partners to punish them when they "misbehave" sounds more like what we're still trying to steer clear of to this day. She should've done her research and have been more aware of this inconsistency in her writing. I wouldn't have had an issue with the aggressive/possessive behavior of the Kindred if she hadn't put that claim in. If you want your writing to be a certain way, be sure to back up what you're claiming. If you say you live in a matriarchy, look up what that means and make it so.The dialogue between characters is at times painful to the point where I skipped dialogue just because I already knew what was going on and didn't want to go through the effort of experiencing it again. I'm HORRIBLY disappointed that we're given backgrounds of certain characters and we never really get to see those traits in their personalities (which are bland and all the same to begin with). Like Kat -- she's suppose to be a lawyer, but the only time she shows off her skills is during the first book when she's reading over the contract. After that, it's just forgotten. I really wanted to see her do something with that, but this is a common problem in this series.Another issue I have with this series is that everyone seems to have a convenient hangup (surprise, it's usually always the women) that has to be fixed. I really hate this artificial lengthening of the plots. What's wrong with just not wanting to be owned by some hostile alien dude, not because you have emotional baggage, but because you just want to live life the way you always have? And it started to become so irritating how most of the female characters somehow always had the worst exes and kept making comparisons. Just one annoying trope after another, really.The worlds are badly designed, the other alien creatures are cartoonish and confusing (for such an advanced species, why are they riding around on alien llamas? Why is that even a thing?).Oh, and I forgot to mention that in the first book, a side character said that on the Twin Kindred planet, they sleep standing up and eat lying down. They have regular beds and eat at tables. It's just little inconsistencies like this that are laughable and make me never want to read this series again, let alone finish it. I don't like the characters, I hate their relationship dynamics (there's a lot of sexual assault in this series, surprise surprise), and it just leaves a bad taste in my mouth in general.Give Abigail Barnette's The Boss series a try if you have doubts about the Kindred books. Neil and Sophie are great characters and after reading their story, I really felt like I didn't waste an ounce of my time.Unlike Kindred. I want that part of my life back.

Lauren, poor unsuspecting cupcake maker who was just enjoying a day off when she was kidnapped by the AllFather, (in Sought). She appeals to Xairn, only son of the AllFather and just as cold, but maybe not as cruel. Xairn has a need in his heart that his father has not quenched with his abuse and Lauren fills it. Will he have the courage to do what's right, or will he obey his father in an attempt to fulfill the prophecy?I just reread books 1 and 2 and I'd forgotten how awful Xairn was in them. It makes this book all the sweeter, knowing he does have feelings in there. I have to say that Xairn is one of my favorites, though not fantasy material for me. I love the way he and Lauren relate as they navigate a rocky relationship and Xairn learns to live away from the AllFather's overbearing presence.This book has, in my opinion, a little more intrigue than the previous ones. I liked seeing more the world Evangeline has built for her Kindred Warriors. At times I wished Lauren and Xairn would be more proactive and less dismissive of their feelings, but I know they needed to get there in their own time.

Like all the books before this one in the series, this novel focuses mainly on one relationship while introducing the next book’s couple and dabbling in the pairings that were previously established in the other tales. In Found, we are immersed in the difficult and seemingly insurmountable coupling of Lauren and Xarin. Unlike the previous three books, this tale begins with a whole new level of darkness. Yet, even in such a situation, the chemistry between the lovely Lauren and the lonely Xarin is palpable. Together the duo craft a dramatic path toward happily ever after, but danger lurks at every turn.As always I shall start by discussing the main female protagonist. Lauren is a determined, cupcake baker with a level of street-smarts that keep her from losing herself in the dark world of the Scourage. Now, while I didn’t find Lauren nearly as relatable as I did Kat, Sophia, & Olivia before her, I did enjoy her way of responding to the things that happened to her; it was very real. Xarin, the male protagonist, was in my opinion, a marvelous character. He was deep and dark, but sweet and well-intention in regards to Lauren. The additional aspect of BDSM to his desires was just another plus for me. Evangeline Anderson has a real talent for crafting males that truly touch the reader; they are realistic, but still have that element of fantasy to them.My favorite part of the novel was not Lauren or Xarin or even the plot, though all three of these things were positives. No, my favorite part was the inclusion of Little One. What can I say? I’m a true sucker for animals. All in all, I highly recommend this book, as I have the rest of this series, to anyone who enjoys science fiction romance novels. This one in particular I believe will appeal to fans of E.L. James’ “Fifty Shades of Grey.”

This series is awesome. The 4th book is Lauren and Xairn's story. They escape from his evil father and he seeks a planet where they can get their DNA altered so she can return to Earth. It works for a while until they finally give in and have sex. Once again the evil father can track him. Incredible read.

All 4 of our children are in the double digits; so this has been an ideal devotional for our "God and I" times in the mornings! Each teen takes weekly turns reading for the day. Then, whatever verse for the day is, we read the entire chapter together as well. (We divide up the number of verses in the chapter, and we read a section of verses at a time.I've actually seen improvement over the summer in our youngest's reading ability! :)

I bought the book because I liked the pages I was able to see; my 16 year-old daughter tells me this book makes her feel like Jesus is her best friend and speaking directly to her heart.

The devotion is gets me in reading the bible, and praying. At the end there is a prayer for you to recite, but unlike most devotions there is no amen, it encourages you to elaborate. I am closer to God because of the devotion and I am only on Day 21.Recommend it to all teens and some young adults.

I would really recommend this one for your teen! My son actually seems to like it as he said some of it is real life stuff he confronts on any given day. Not that he lets us see him study it ...we know he does... as the pages are dog eared!!!

My son is 15 and we read this every night. It gives you the verse and then a quick explanation like Jesus is talking directly to you then the prayer. I like it because there are no stories from babyboomers trying to relate to today's teens! Often the verse and the following is enough and my son will spontaneously go into his own prayer. I highly recommended this as a brief but powerful tool to keep your mind on God.

My 15 year old asked for a new devotional after finishing the one she had. After researching and reviewing other devotionals for teens on Amazon, I was drawn to this one. She loves it!! The readings and scriptures have the perfect balance, and relate to issues/topics that teens face in the modern world. Would definitely buy this for other teens as a gift!

Recently purchased this for my Granddaughter, she is going to love this book. After I read some of the pages, I just know this will be so good for her. For each day, it starts you off with a Bible verse, then a little passage that speaks from God's point of view directly to you, and finally there is a prayer reminding you of God's love and how we must try to be more like him, and other things too! I'm a data scientist and I've had this book now for more than two years, and I find myself taking it off the shelf time and again to review a topic I haven't worked on in awhile. The main reason is because it provides straight explanations on almost any question I have regarding data analysis, data interpretation, analytics, techniques, software, and further reading. The author, a physicist by training with years of real-world experience, has a way of explaining a topic well without the formalism you would find in a textbook (and by no means do I suggest that this book can replace a textbook). But if you need to dive deeper into an area I recommend reading a few pages in this book first before you start reading a textbook. The author also shares his opinion frequently, which I find useful. Even if you disagree with it, reading it prompts you to think about a topic deeper, and that's when good things happen. I highly recommend this book, it has never disappointed me.

I love this book on data analysis, but I do understand not everybody likes this style.From a theoretical physics background, I appreciate the book and the author a lot. The writer put a lot of effort in explaining the background on each topic from the perspective of someone who knows a bit about the topic but not in depth. People who are currently data scientists are from different technical background, and the text is a good introduction into the topics. Technical details are not overwhelming, which is good for people who can pick up the technicalities on their own through other books and the web.If one is looking for the open source tools implementation, he is certainly disappointed. (The title of the book is unfortunately misleading.) If one is looking for technical details, this is not a good option for them. However, to gain the insights and the big picture, this is the best book.The following chapters are well written:- Chapter 2 (A Single Variable: Shape and Distribution): This brings people into the style of the book, some basics to data analysis and wrangling, and an introduction to NumPy.- Chapter 8 (Models from Scaling Arguments): Mathematical modeling to data, something a lot of theorists doing!- Chapter 9 (Arguments from Probability Models).- Chapter 13 (Finding Clusters): Introduction to various clustering (unsupervised learning) techniques.- Chapter 18 (Predictive Analytics): Something hot recently. This serves a good piece of introduction to the big picture because a lot of other books are overwhelming with the technical details that we often get lost when working with these tools.

Data Analysis with Open Source Tools does a great job covering a lot of topics in way that balances theoretical explanations and practical demonstration. In keeping true to its title, a wealth of tools (and data sources) are identified and explored.Because the book offers a balance between explanation and demonstration it can be read in two different ways. First, you can read the chapters without getting involved with the code to get a better understanding of the whys and hows of the different analysis techniques. On the other hand, if you are more of a brass tacks person, you can focus on the code, run the examples, and just skim the explanations.For those that are exploring the world of data analysis, this book is a great compliment to Segaran's Programming Collective Intelligence: Building Smart Web 2.0 Applications and Russell's Mining the Social Web: Analyzing Data from Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Other Social Media Sites. Where the books overlap the explanations and examples differ which helps enormously when trying to master the concepts and techniques. However, each book contains topics not in the others. Collectively they offer a rather powerful set of tools.Having read the other books prior to this one, I really appreciated the time spent on the mathematics behind each technique. The others get your hands dirty very quickly - and I appreciated that greatly when first exploring data mining - but I found myself wanting to have a deeper understanding which this book so nicely provides. As Janert mentions in the first chapter, the succinct notation of mathematics is much clearer than having to try to extract the essence of twenty lines of source code. Without a doubt, though, Data Analysis is dense which and that might turn a few people off.All said and done, I'm glad I took the time to read the book and will definitely keep it nearby.

I've had some statistcs courses in Uni(descriptive, predictive and Discriminatory) but even after those there was much to learn with this book.Unlike traditional courses that focus on concepts one by one, the book focuses on problems and steps with which to solve them. It's a very practical and useful approach and gave me many more insights on how to think about data problems using concepts I already had about statistics.If you know nothing about Statistics, this book may be a little heavy, but it is nothing that you can't follow with a concept book by your side.I am no programmer, with little experience in Python but I found it really well explained and understandable.

That said, I try to be honest and open in all my reviews.(Please see the enclosed pictures.)This is a beautifully illustrated book, and it is sturdy too. I have carried it around with me in my backpack during three weeks of intercontinental travels, and the binding has held up well.The book tells the story of how humans got into space and covers the historical aspects of Space 1.0 (up through the last Space Shuttle mission).The book proposes all the reasons that it is both feasible and desirable for a Space 2.0 and talks through both governmental and private current space ventures.The book describes in logical and well provenanced terms what the rationale for getting into and staying in space are from protection of the Earth through gaining resources through exquisite manufacturing and ultimately as a way of exploring the unknown.Everywhere in the book there are absolutely gorgeous full four color pictures.This book is fun to read as well as informative. (Imagine my surprise and delight when the passenger next to me took the book to read when I dozed off on my flight. How many books does that happen to?)I could not be happier with either the presentation or the content.Well done Rod Pyle!

I've known Rod Pyle for while now, and I knew he was a good writer, I didn't know he was such a comprehensive researcher. I have skimmed through this book for a quick read to provide a review. Based on my first pass, I can state without a doubt that this book is amazing, it is easy to read, provides some fantastic artwork, and historical photography too. What I like the most about this book are the factoids based on interviews from professionals and business owners in the aerospace industry and research details about the myriad of various areas which took me on a ride from private spaceflight, through NASA (some of which I was already familiar) and the new entrepreneurial disrupters of the present and a view into what the future of spaceflight might see. What was also insightful was the historical significance and context which gave me a complete picture. Now that I've skimmed through I'm ready for a slow read to take it all in with hot tea and relax and fully absorb all the deep work Rod Pyle put into Space 2.0. What is really wonderful is how well written this book is, which is refreshing. Don't miss this book as it is great to read but it also is a great desktop reference for spaceflight. If you have teens that are interested in aerospace this is a fantastic book for an overall deep dive into spaceflight, many questions can be answered by reading this book and some that have never been asked.
