About the Author
William J. Byrnes is a professor of Arts Administration at Southern Utah University in Cedar City, UT. He regularly teaches graduate seminars and online in the areas of board relations and planning, fundraising, cultural economics, financial management, leadership, and organizational development. He has extensive experience in higher education management and administration and has served in various leadership capacities at SUU, Florida State University, and Oberlin College. He has managed and produced numerous events and productions in the performing arts over the last 40 years. He has served on several boards including the Utah Shakespeare Festival and the ETSA Foundation. He has lectured on arts management in America and in China, Japan, Singapore, Germany, Serbia, and Italy. He has been a long-standing member of the United States Institute for Theatre Technology (USITT) Management Commission and has served in various leadership capacities in USITT since 1980, including serving as president in 2000-02. In 2011 he received the distinguished achievement award in management from USITT. He is also a Fellow in USITT and received its Founders Award in 1996.

Saved my masters degree in art and cultural management. Long story short, the master's pensum was really bad (U. Barcelona). This book helped me cover all the holes I had with the bad classes I took, mostly is up to date. It only covers how managing is done in North America so depending in which part of the world u are in, some concepts will not apply or may give u a twist on how to handle things differently. Great book! definitely will recommend it!. One thing is that the graphics in the kindle version are low quality, so if you zoom it and try to read them, it will be pixelated.
A must-have for people working in non-profit or arts administration. Great incorporation of art and business management.
For 80% of the lessons learned from this book, you can easily find this same information from other business management books or by just googling it. Unless you are taking a class and are forced to purchase this, don't bother ordering. The only use I found in this was in finding funding for art projects such as using crowd sourcing and grants.
The book contains many of the key fundamentals that arts managers and administrators need to know. It provides a good foundation for students' research and learning, especially when significant current issues, trends, and anticipated changes are explored beyond what the book offers. The organization and contents of the chapters and topics, and the discussion questions and references that are included with each chapter, are useful for in-class and group homework assignments.
Just what I need.
Absolutely amazing book. Every time I have to write a proposal or statement I open it for just a quick refreshment. Anybody who is dealing with gallery business should consider purchasing it. Easy to find and I love the schemes they use.
